May / Might


May and might – both are used to express – ‘POSSIBILITY‘.

EXAMPLES

  • They may leave by 5 pm.
  • They might leave by 5 pm.
  • Both are correct.

  • I  might have given it  to someone else.
  • I  may have given it  to someone else.
  • Both are correct.


May and might are also used to express – ‘PERMISSION‘.

EXAMPLES

  • May I  know your name please?
  • Might I  know your name please?
  • Even though both are correct, ‘may I’ – sounds more appropriate.
